SR Randy Onwuasor – LSU Tigers

2017-18 stats: 4.6 ppg 2.1 rpg 0.8 apg

After spending two seasons at Texas Tech with little to show for it, Onwuasor went to Southern Utah for a season. After putting up 23.6 ppg in the Big Sky Conference, he decided to go back up to the high-majors.

Because he became a grad transfer late in the summer, there were special attention paid to him. Teams from the Pac-12, Gonzaga, and other high-profile schools were vying for his services. He ultimately chose LSU and Will Wade, who was making strides in his first season accumulating talent.

Onwuasor had his chances to become a focal point of the team, but statistically he went back to his days with the Red Raiders.

At best, the senior was erratic, with the number of minutes played in games varying from day-to-day. He was one of the top scorers in the country last season, but 14 points was the season-high in 2017-18. Before the NIT first-round loss to Utah, Onwuasor went 11 straight contests without reaching double-digits.

The Tigers performed better than expected, but would’ve been even better with another scoring option. His performance was the difference between the NIT and sneaking in as an at-large.
