Butler Basketball: 2017-18 player grades for the Bulldogs
Kamar Baldwin was excellent as a freshman and Butler needed him to fill a bigger role in his second season. Thankfully, the 6’0″ guard showed up in a big way. His efficiency took a significant hit with his role change but he increased his scoring and playmaking this year. In addition, his defensive acumen stayed right on point as one of the hardest players in the country to score on. Baldwin flashed the ability to be a go-to scorer all season long and seemed to always come up with big buckets. He is a solid 3-point shooter who is ambidextrous around the basket. It is rare to find a guard with as much craftiness as Baldwin.
Baldwin finished second on the team in both points and assists this season as a true leader on the court. In late-game situations, he was more than deserving of having the ball in his hands. Despite shooting just 44.2% from the field (49.5% last season) and 33.1% from three (37.2% last season), Baldwin did everything anyone could have asked of him this season.
In order for Butler to make the NCAA Tournament, the team needed Baldwin to become a true star and he did that. His effort on both ends of the floor was exemplary and it was a shame that he was not voted onto an All-Big East team. He will surely find a spot on the preseason team for next year considering his play and growth in the first two years of his collegiate career.
