8. Portland Pilots 10-22 (4-14)

2017-18 postseason result: None

Season Grade: C+

With only a couple of upperclassman on the roster, head coach Terry Porter has undergone a complete roster rebuild including adding his own two sons to the rotation.

Portland was supposed to finish last in the WCC, so it was impressive that not only they won four games, but were close to claiming a few more. The future looks bright for the Pilots based on this season.

7. Santa Clara Broncos 11-20 (8-10)

2017-18 postseason result: None

Season Grade: D+

When the non-conference was over, Santa Clara was easily the biggest disappointment of any WCC. They had an All-WCC caliber player in KJ Feagin and experienced role players, yet still couldn’t knock off one of the top three teams in the league.

Coming into the season, the Broncos were considered the most likely to get that big upset over Gonzaga over Saint Mary’s. That was wrong, along with other hopes for this team.

6. San Francisco Dons 22-17 (9-9)

2017-18 postseason: College Basketball Tournament (CBI) Finals

Season Grade: B

Considering that they were playing without their top player all season in Charles Minlend, this turned out to be another successful season with head coach Kyle Smith in charge. Freshman Souley Boum had emerged as a legit scorer and Frankie Ferrari made a big leap in his development.

The highlight of the Don’s season was their win over Saint Mary’s which cost them big-time. And with next year’s team will be even more dangerous considering that the bulk of the roster becoming upperclassmen, San Francisco should have high expectations next season.
