Luke Maye: The number one candidate in all of basketball that isn’t a freshman who everyone thought was going to have the biggest breakout season. Luke Maye put on some great performances during the 2017 National Championship run. His biggest claim to fame was the game-winner over Kentucky.

2018 was supposed to be a Wooden Award caliber season. Maye remained on many watch lists all season. It’s hard not to when the guy averages a double-double per night. It really was remarkable having someone take such a leap from sophomore to junior year.

Maye almost averaged 17 points per game. He was slightly over 10 boards. He’s an offensive rebounding machine and he has the outside shot which went in 50 times this season. Maye only shot 48 percent from the field and 62 percent from the line. He did however shoot an impressive 43 percent from downtown.

To someone that watched almost every game from ACC play on, Maye seemed a little inconsistent. There’s no doubt that the offense ran through Maye and Berry. Williams and Johnson were nice, but the combination of the veteran guard and talented forward was the offense. When both All-American candidates were clicking, the team was winning. On the other hand, though when they struggled to put the ball in the basket, the team didn’t win a whole lot.
