Big Ten Basketball: Top Players from the Conference in the 2018 NBA Draft
It wasn’t a total surprise that he declared. A National Championship would’ve been nice, but Michigan still had a very good season. There’s not a whole lot that you can be upset about when you run into one of the better college basketball teams in recent memory.
Mo Wagner got to be the leader of a Michigan team he’s been with for three seasons. He’s was waiting for this opportunity for a while now. Wagner got to lead the team in scoring and rebounding while making a run all the way to the National Championship. There’s not a whole lot left to prove in college.
He may be 62 according to SI and 40 on our big board list, but he’ll be a nice G-League player and will eventually move his way onto an NBA roster. I have no doubt that he’ll be down for a while, but I also have no doubt that Wagner will be in a rotation someday. That’s exactly where our own John Ryan has him sitting in his first Big Board rankings.
Wagner has great size for the NBA. He’s a big time forward who can stretch the floor. He’s always been highly thought of because he’s able to knock down a shot from deep. The Wolverine forward went from 45 made three-pointers to 63 from sophomore to junior year.
Another improvement a lot people noticed was his rebounding production going up. He recorded over 100 more rebounds. His post game and shot blocking ability isn’t quite where NBA players are normally, but he’s certainly taking the time to improve his game one bit at a time. That translates that after some time in the G-League, he’ll be ready for the big time.
