College basketball is a sport. And sports are a form of entertainment. When it comes to entertainment, there always has to be a good guy – and a villain. And for the past couple of seasons, there weren’t any better of a “bad guy” than Macura.
Since a becoming a full-time starter the in past two years, the shooting guard out a Minnesota has made headlines for his on the court conduct. Whether it was getting into it with opposing fans, opposing players, and even a rival coach in Cincinnati’s Mick Cronin, Macura excelled in the animosity. One thing that can’t be taken away from his was how much teams loved having him around.
To some degree, those moments at times outshined how good a basketball player he had become, as he was one of the best scorers in the Big East Conference. He along with Trevon Bluiett became the faces of the best Xavier teams in school history.
Was Macura one of the best players in the country? No. But he was entertaining, as his antics became appointment viewing, as his competitiveness will be missed in the sport.
