5. Angel Delgado – Seton Hall Pirates

2017-18 stats: 13.6 ppg 11.8 rpg 2.8 apg

Career stats (132 games): 12.1 ppg 11.0 rpg 1.7 apg

Let me say this. I have no problem with the big men of today wanting to expand both their game and their shooting range. But it’s always nice to see a throwback center who operates in the paint. Delgado did not make one three-pointer in four years at Seton Hall but really didn’t have to have a tremendous impact.

He was a terror on the boards from the opening gate, averaging 9.8 rpg. In his very first game, he grabbed 12 rebounds against Mercer and came into the national spotlight later on in the season with a 19 point and 19 rebound game against DePaul.

Throughout all four seasons, Delgado amassed a total of 73 double-doubles. In his junior year, he went through a period where he had 24 double-doubles in 25 games. He was part of a core of upperclassmen that led Seton Hall to the program’s best years.

If it wasn’t for Caleb Swanigan‘s All-American season in 2016-17, Delgado’s averages of 15.2 ppg and 13.1 rpg would’ve been even more regarded. He’s the last of a dying breed of big men who can dominate inside, and there doesn’t appear to be any good comparisons for players coming in next season in the sport.
