NCAA Basketball: Top 10 graduating seniors who will be missed the most
4. Bonzie Colson – Notre Dame Fighting Irish
2017-18 stats: 19.7 ppg 10.1 rpg 0.9 apg
Career stats (125 games): 13.1 ppg 7.2 rpg 1.0 apg
One of the more unlikely stars of college basketball, Colson became an All-American caliber player in his junior season, averaging 17.8 ppg and 10.1 rpg.
In that season he produced 19 double-doubles, with his best game coming in a 24 point and 17 rebound performance against Iowa. He also had a 29 point game against Duke in the ACC Tournament title game, as well as 27 in the NCAA Tournament against the tough defense in West Virginia.
What made Colson such a pleasure to watch is that despite his height (6’5), he still was able to be a force inside. That’s also where he got a ton of his offense, as he never was a volume shooter from three-point range. Yet he was still able to use his 225-pound frame to his advantage and score on bigger opponents.
Senior year for Colson was going great until a knee injury nearly ended his Notre Dame career. He was able to come back at the ACC Tournament, aiming to make one last run at the Big Dance. It ultimately fell short, but at least we as fans we able to see one of the more inspiring players of recent memory. When it came to him, size really didn’t mean everything.
