Purdue Boilermakers

Ranked as high as third in the country this past regular season, Purdue fans considered 2018 to be their best opportunity to reach the final four since they were last there in 1969. The team was loaded with talent and had the unselfish qualities of an elite group of basketball players. Unfortunately for the Boilermakers, this group is no longer completely intact.

Four of Purdue’s starting five are graduating, including P.J. Thompson, Vincent Edwards, Dakota Mathias, and the dominant big man Isaac Haas. Purdue does have some talent up and coming such as freshman center Matt Haarms, and also has done a very good job recruiting in the past two seasons thanks to head coach Matt Painter’s strong leadership and the team’s recent success.

Still, it is going to be an uphill battle for the Boilermakers in a strong Big Ten conference needing to replace four starters. Players such as Carsen Edwards and Nojel Eastern are going to have to seize leadership and be able to carry the team for the upcoming year if they would like to enjoy anywhere near the amount of success they had in 2018.
