3. Kyle Collinsworth

Career stats: 12.2 ppg 7.5 rpg 5.0 apg

We’ve reached the point of the record holders that played for Rose, with the NCAA All-Time triple-double leader up first. Collinsworth was the floor general for the Cougars all four seasons, filling up the stat sheets each time out.

He almost didn’t have his season to enjoy, after he tore up his ACL towards the end of his junior year. But he ended up missing no time and came back better than ever. Collinsworth finished with 12 triple-doubles, a record that might not be broken for a while. He’s currently the only active BYU player in the NBA.

2. Tyler Haws

Career stats: 19.6 ppg 4.3 rpg 1.8 apg

“Mission rust” clearly wasn’t a factor for the elder Haws, who went from an already solid 11.3 ppg to an outstanding 21.7 ppg two years later in his sophomore season. He did even better his junior year in route to winning the WCC Player of the Year, averaging over 23 ppg while scoring a career-high 48 points in a loss to Portland.

Late in his final season, he became BYU’s All-Time leader scorer with over 2,600 points, finishing up a legendary season for the Cougars. Without him, the program would’ve been even bigger trouble in the WCC, without the lethal scorer to help them out.

1. Jimmer Fredette

Career stats: 18.7 ppg 2.6 rpg 3.7 apg

Next to the great Danny Ainge, this is the best player in BYU Basketball history, let alone with just Rose. It was a steady incline with his scoring production, starting from 7.0 ppg, to 16.2 ppg, to 22.1 ppg to become the National Player of the Year with 28.9 ppg. Even more impressive was his efficient 45-40-89 shooting splits.

Fredette dropped 40+ points four different times in his final year and dropped 52 on San Diego State in what may have been the most high-profile ranked matchup of the season. He led them to the Sweet Sixteen, scoring 30+ points in all three NCAA Tournament games.

BYU Basketball – and Dave Rose’s coaching legacy was never at a higher point in the sport. Will they ever make it back to that point where they were a nationally recognized product? That remains to be seen. But if he can get some more of the players from this list, then the program will get their own rankings in no time.
