2. Donald Sloan – Texas A&M Aggies (2007- 2010)

Career stats: 11.0 ppg 3.3 rpg 2.7 apg

After a freshman season as a reserve under Billy Gillispie, Sloan excelled the next three years under Turgeon, starting just about every game. His scoring production increased gradually, until his senior year where he exploded.

He averaged 17.8 ppg on 45% shooting, getting a spot on the All-Big 12 team. Sloan’s production was needed even more after teammate Derrick Roland went down with an injury halfway through the season, as he was the only other double-digit scorer.

The Aggie finished his college career in the top-10 in both scoring and passing with Texas A&M, developing nicely under Turgeon.

1. Melo Trimble – Maryland Terrapins (2015-2017)

Career stats: 15.9 ppg 3.7 rpg 3.9 apg

From the moment he scored 31 points against Arizona State in the fourth game of his college career, Terrapins fans knew they had a special player on their hands. He led the team in scoring his freshmen season, getting All-Big Ten Awards and even some All-American mentions.

Trimble was an elite scorer throughout his college career, one of the best at getting to the free throw line as well as an adept passer. His clutchness also won him accolades, with a few game-winners along the way. With nothing left to accomplish in the NCAA, Trimble decided to go pro after his junior year.

He was a guaranteed double-figures scorer for Maryland who performed great in his three years with the team. He also was the first of what seems to be many highly regarded recruits now coming to Maryland. The impact of Trimble will be felt on Turgeon’s coaching career – both on the court and on the recruiting trail for years to come.
