6. Rodney McGruder – Kansas State Wildcats (2010-2013)

Career stats: 11.7 ppg 4.8 rpg 1.4 apg

McGruder and Weber only had one season together, but the senior helped the coach have a great start into the Big 12. The Wildcats went 27-8 and tied with rival Kansas for the best conference record at 14-4. McGruder led the team in both scoring and rebounding, including three 20+ scoring games against Oklahoma State.

5. Luther Head – Illinois Illini (2002-2005)

Career stats: 10.1 ppg 3.1 rpg 2.5 apg

Part of the lethal trio on the perimeter for Illinois during the team’s best days, Head may have been the guy who received the least amount of credit. His senior season was huge, averaging 15.9 ppg while getting All-American honors. He was incredible in his final games with Illinois, scoring 20 points in the Elite Eight, Final Four, and national title game.

4. Kent Williams – Southern Illinois Salukis (2000-2003)

Career stats: 15.5 ppg 2.3 rpg 2.7 apg

The key player in the Salukis two trips to the Big Dance, Williams averaged over 15 ppg in each season, which was one of the best in the Missouri Valley Conference while winning All-Conference honors. His No. 4 ranking may seem a bit high but without him, Southern Illinois wouldn’t have made the Big Dance. Hence Weber wouldn’t have been able to advance in his coaching career.
