10. Matt Carroll – Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2000-2003)

Career stats: 13.9 ppg 4.3 rpg 2.4 apg

When Carroll first arrived in South Bend, he was still able to get some points despite playing with some elite scorers (more on them later). He was able to become the lead man his senior year, averaging 19.5 ppg and 5.0 rpg. In all four seasons, Carroll finished in the top-10 in made three-pointers in the Big East.

9. Bonzie Colson – Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2015-2018)

Career stats: 13.1 ppg 7.2 rpg 1.0 apg

Despite being just 6’5, Colson averaged double-digit rebounds in his final two seasons, while leading the team in scoring. In a full healthy junior year, the undersized forward was a First-Team All-ACC player and All-American. Colson missed half of his senior season with foot issues, which ultimately cost Notre Dame a trip to the Big Dance.

8. Greg Smith – Delaware Blue Hens (1994-1997)

Career stats: 15.7 ppg 8.1 rpg 1.1 apg

Don’t think that there weren’t great players around when Brey started his career, as Smith was the first “star” for him. In the two seasons that Smith played for Brey, his production increased dramatically, averaging a great 21.3 ppg and 11.0 rpg his final year.

7. Chris Quinn – Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2003-2006)

Career stats: 11.8 ppg 2.7 rpg 3.5 apg

After two productive seasons entering his senior year, Quinn had one of the best individual campaigns in recent program history. He averaged a record 40 minutes a game, as well as 17.7 ppg and 6.4 apg (ranking in the top 10 in the country). He was awarded a First-Team All-Big East selection.

6. Ryan Humphrey – Notre Dame Fighting Irish (1998-2002)

Career stats: 13.3 ppg 8.4 rpg 1.3 apg

When Brey first arrived in South Bend, Humphrey was coming off of his redshirt season after transferring in from Oklahoma. He was a good player then but became a star with the Fighting Irish. Humphrey averaged 18.9 ppg, 10.9 rpg and 2.8 bpg, all of which were right near the top of the Big East. He created a nice foundation for Brey to succeed at Notre Dame.
