Big Ten Basketball: Breaking down the 5 highest-rated 2018 commitments
SG Aaron Wiggins, Maryland
One of the top players out of North Carolina, Aaron Wiggins comes in ranked at No. 39 in the country. He is known as one of the best isolation scorers in the class and this is a skill that is often underrated by those in basketball circles. Yes, ball movement is one of the most important factors in a team’s success but having an elite bucket-getter for late shot clock situations is also vital for a college basketball team.
Even though Wiggins will be just a freshman this season, he has the skill to be a valuable rotation piece and go-to scorer in some situations. Wiggins was the winner of the one-and-one tournament at the Allen Iverson Roundball Classic earlier this year and showed out in front of a packed house. At that same event, Wiggins finished second in the 3-point contest, flashing his ability to be a knockdown shooter from the team.
As of right now, there are extremely high expectations for the Maryland Terrapins. They are one of the favorites to finish near the top of the Big Ten next season and should be a preseason top-25 team if all goes according to plan this offseason. In saying this, I mean that the Terps need Bruno Fernando and Kevin Huerter to return to school. They have one more week left to decide whether or not they will stay in the NBA Draft.
Regardless of their decisions, you can expect Wiggins to see a ton of minutes on the wing either as a starter or elite bench scorer.
