Why Should You Know Clemons?

Clemons enters the year as the frontrunner for the Big South player of the year. He’s only 5’9” but is the true definition of an elite scorer. Clemons is also far and away the best player in the Campbell Fighting Camels basketball history. He owns numerous records at Campbell and many of them are most likely never going to be broken.

In the 96 career games that Clemons has played while in college he has scored in double figures in 95 of them. He was able to score in double figures in every game of the season last year, as well as numerous games last year scoring over 30 points. Like many elite scorers, Clemons is in range once he enters the gym.

In the game last year against Liberty, he scored a season high of 42 points. He went 10-14 from the three-point line and 11-16 overall from the field, as well as 10-14 from the free throw line. Normally, the 42 points would be most other players career high. Not for Clemons, with his career high in points came at the end of his sophomore year in the Big South tournament. The high-scoring guard scored 51 points against UNC-Asheville in a semifinal matchup.

Clemons will produce in other aspects of the game including rebounds, but he should be remembered for his scoring prowess. There are not many players who can shoot and score like Clemons can. It’s hard to fathom that Clemons, who has yet to win a Big South Player of the Year award, won’t win it this year.
