NCAA Basketball: In-depth look at explosive North Texas guard Roosevelt Smart
By Bryan Mauro
Why should you know Smart?
Conference USA has always had their fair share high-end talent. Smart joins a long line of talented players who are trying to put their stamp on this conference. His one year on campus was a productive one as he has set numerous offensive records for North Texas. Smart holds the record for individual points scored in a season with 742. He also set the new school record for three pointers made in a season with 133, which blows the previous season high of 91 out of the water.
Smart is a scorer who can score in a variety of ways. He is deadly from beyond the arc, automatic from the line, and efficient from two. Smart has been known to stuff a stat sheet as well. He contributed with four rebounds a game last year but didn’t have many assists but that is partly due to the fact that Woolridge is one of the best passers in the country, and because Smart is so deadly as the off-ball guard.
While Smart thrives as a catch-and-shoot player, he is also able to get in the paint and draw fouls, attempting 188 free throws last season. He’s an explosive guard with an ability to make opposing defenses pay.
