NBA Draft 2018: 5 players that could exceed their draft expectations
4. Jevon Carter, West Virginia
West Virginia Mountaineers senior point guard Jevon Carter is another player NBA teams will be thankful to have on their roster next season. He won back-to-back Naismith Defensive Player of the Year awards in 2016-17 and 2017-18. The last player in the NBA to win the award is 2016-17 Rookie of the Year winner Malcolm Brogdon.
Carter is a 6-foot-1 point guard whose presence paid dividends on the Mountaineers roster for four seasons. He averaged 17.3 points, 6.6 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 3.0 steals this past season at West Virginia while shooting 39.3% from 3-point land.
Carter also turned heads at this year’s NBA Draft Combine with his full-court defensive pressure and on-court leadership. At times, he tried to do too much but he still did enough to earn more workouts in front of other NBA teams.
If anything, Carter’s defense will should secure him a backup point guard role at some point. Now, he just needs to find a landing spot. He is another second round selection that should be one to watch when the NBA season begins in 2018-19.
