SG Josh Okogie, Minnesota Timberwolves

School: Georgia Tech

Pick: 20th Overall

Height/Weight/Age: 6-4/213/19

Josh Okogie is the prototypical “three-and-D” player. He made 36% of his 3-pointers as a Yellow Jacket. His frequent theft of the basketball endeared scouts, who also liked the Nigerian-born player’s wing defense. Josh Okogie finished his GT career with averages of 18.2 points per game and 6.3 assists. Minnesota Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau was drawn to Okogie by his upside.

While Thibodeau is not famous for playing rookies, especially on a team that is winning. Some hard work may earn Okogie some minutes in his rookie season, and he’ll certainly be good depth next season.

SG Grayson Allen, Utah Jazz

School: Duke

Pick: 21st Overall

Height/Weight/Age: 6-3/205/22

Grayson Allen was as notable for his frequent incidents of flagrant contact as he was for his prolific perimeter shooting. Allen’s draft stock rapidly improved following a standout performance at the combine. Allen finished just five points shy of 2,000 with his career scoring total at Duke, one of only five Blue Devils to eclipse the 1900 point mark. His number of points is good for 12th on Duke’s all-time scoring list. Grayson attracted controversy for his frequent personal fouls, including the infamous “hip check” in an ACC Tournament game against NC State. However, his prowess and flexibility made it easy to forgive him for his missteps.

Allen’s Jazz coach will be fellow Duke alum Quin Snyder. The combination of the rookie and his college opponent, Louisville product Donovan Mitchell, could be deadly for Jazz foes. Mitchell and Allen are eager to be teammates, as evidenced by Mitchell hugging Allen shortly after his selection. Allen outscored Mitchell during all of the Blue Devil-Cardinal contests they played in. The two will try to help best the conference semifinal run the team enjoyed last year.
