Big East Basketball: Where are the former stars from the conference heading in the NBA?
Jalen Brunson, Villanova
It was interesting to see the most decorated Villanova Wildcat in history fall all the way to the second round of the NBA Draft. Still, point guard Jalen Brunson was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks with the 33rd overall pick, despite his body of work in the 2017-18 season.
Brunson put up 18.9 points, 4.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds as a junior. He was named Big East Player of the Year and Consensus National Player of the Year by media outlets. He was an efficient 52.1 percent from the floor and 40.8 percent from 3-point land all season long.
Despite his productive numbers, Brunson didn’t hear his name called until the second round. He’ll be extra motivated by the results and will have his work cut out for him with the Mavericks.
Lucky for him he’s got Luka Doncic and Dennis Smith Jr. around to push him as a competitor. Consider me a fan of Brunson making the final 15-man roster in some capacity.
