Justin Jackson, Maryland

The Orlando Magic took a risk with the 43rd pick, selecting Maryland forward Justin Jackson. Jackson missed most of the 2017-18 season due to a shoulder injury. He’ll have his work cut out for him in Orlando, too.

After returning to school after a strong freshman campaign, Jackson got hurt and missed a majority of the 2017-18 season. He still averaged 9.8 points and 8.1 rebounds through 11 games but his impact was minimal due to his injury.

Despite being injured, Orlando saw enough in Jackson to take a chance on him. Jackson could just be an insurance policy for the Magic, though. They selected Texas’ Mo Bamba with the sixth overall pick in the first round.

With Bamba, Aaron Gordon and Jonathan Isaac in the frontcourt, Jackson could find it difficult to find playing time. At 6-foot-7, he’s an undersized forward with little ability to shoot the 3-pointer.
