Point Guard

Minutes Allocation (40 total): Charlie Moore (23), Devon Dotson (13) and Quentin Grimes (4)

With the recent stardom of Frank Mason and Devonte’ Graham, expectations are high for the next starting point guard of Kansas Basketball. There are good options, with three guys ready and able to handle the ball.

The likeliest candidate to get the starting nod is Moore, who sat out a season after transferring in from the University of Cal. As a freshman, he was third on the team in scoring at 12.2 ppg, while leading the Golden Bears with 3.5 assists per game. The 6’0 guard is a solid shooter who’ll have a better cast of teammates to work with.

Dotson is a five-star traditional point guard who has a higher overall ceiling than Moore. The 6’2 Charlotte native is a quality shooter and athlete who would start on 98% of D-1 teams. Grimes is listed as a combo guard, who can handle the ball as well. Expect him to get some minutes at the point position during the season.

Because of having already played in D-1 Basketball at a high level, Moore will get the most minutes as a point guard. But Dotson will likely cut into the minutes during the season, forcing coach Bill Self to make a decision come postseason time.
