Shooting Guard

Minutes allocation (40 total): Quentin Grimes (20), Marcus Garrett (10), Lagerald Vick (5) and Sam Cunliffe (5)

This is the position that we fans will see Grimes the most, as the 6’5 and 200-pound combo guard is a perfect fit both offensively and defensively in NCAA Basketball. The 10th-ranked prospect in the class of 2018 is an outstanding shooter and has the athleticism Kansas hasn’t had since Andrew Wiggins.

He doesn’t have the position to himself though, as he’ll be pushed by a player that’s flown a bit under-the-radar. As a freshman, Garrett played every game and started seven games last season. The 6’5 wing is a great athlete and was more of a defensive stopper. If the incoming players aren’t great on defensive, that’ll be how Garrett gets his minutes. Because between his poor three-point percentage and shooting under 50% from the free throw line, his offense won’t win him minutes.

In terms of matchups, there will be circumstances where the rising senior Vick will be needed to play that position too. I feel bad for Cunliffe though, as it seems he’s been put in the back of the rotation. The former top-40 prospect had to sit out half a year after leaving Arizona State, yet couldn’t crack the shallow rotation. Hard to imagine the guard getting minutes with everyone coming in.
