Center

Minutes allocation (40 total): Udoka Azubuike (20), Silvio De Souza (10) and David McCormack (10)

This is where De Souza might get the most minutes as a backup. Azubuike is certainly the team’s starter at the five-spot but played just 23.6 mpg without a true backup last season. He’s not equipped to play 30+ minutes a night so De Silva will get some playing time.

I will say that the power forward and center positions do expose a potential weakness (albeit a small one). Most of these guys aren’t capable of shooting it from the perimeter, so spacing may be an issue. Playing De Silva and Azubuike together might be a mismatch that an opposing team could take advantage of.

As for McCormack, he’s at the bottom of the frontcourt totem pole only because of experience. But a top-40 recruit will find a way to get on the court somehow. If he can spread the floor, then minutes might come his way.

One player not mentioned was Ochai Agbaji, a four-star top-150 player who is a small forward. He might’ve been able to play some this season, but Vick’s return likely makes him a redshirt candidate. In due time though, he’ll get his moment to shine.

This was a difficult exercise to do and anyone who reads this can do their own mock allocation of minutes. But this piece does show the incredible depth Kansas Basketball has for 2018-19. I don’t envy what Coach Self has to deal with in the locker room, but it’ll all be worth it if the Jayhawks can make another trip to the Final Four.
