Shooting Guard

Minutes Allocation (40 total): Brandon Williams (26), Devonaire Doutrive (10) and Brandon Randolph (4)

Williams is a two-time star recruit for Arizona in this recruiting class. He originally committed last fall before the alleged NCAA violations caused him to reconsider and open up his options again. Several months later Williams chose the Wildcats again over Oregon and Gonzaga. It’s a big coup for the program to get him back as he’ll have a huge role in the team.

While I use generic positions for this piece, there’s no doubt that Williams is a true point guard himself. Expect a lot of lineups involving two point guards which will help an offense that lacks players who can create their own shots. At 6’2 and nearly 200-pounds, the top-40 guard should be capable of guarding the more natural shooting guards, while his ability to shoot the three-pointer well won’t hurt the spacing.

Doutrive is more of that natural shooting guard at 6’5 and has a great stroke. After some of the others like Randolph underperformed last year, the 2018 class of players will have a real shot at minutes and creates even more competition.

Randolph was a former top-40 guard himself by scored less than four points a night and struggled on both ends. Williams is a guaranteed 25+ minutes a night to start out, so it’ll be up to Randolph himself to get back into the rotation.
