Atlantic 10 Basketball: Top 5 rising sophomores for 2018-19
3. Grant Golden, Richmond
The Richmond Spiders might be the new top team in the Richmond Metro area, especially with Grant Golden in the rotation. He ranked second among freshman in scoring last season (15.6 points per game) and fourth among them in rebounds per game (6.7).
Golden started in all 32 games he appeared in during the 2017-18 season, while also averaging 2.2 assists and 1.2 blocks per game. He registered five double-doubles, including 26 points and 11 rebounds against UMass on Feb. 28. He put up 26 points twice last season with the Spiders going 2-0 in those games.
The All-Rookie team selection has shown the ability to play inside and out, although his outside shot is still coming along. He shot 49.8 percent from the field and was 27.5 percent from 3-point range (22-of-80). He’ll be a solid option for the Richmond offense with ample experience under his belt.
