Luwane Pipkins had an outstanding sophomore season for UMass Basketball. What’s in store for the Minutemen star for 2018-19?

As a new season approaches, the Atlantic 10 conference is as wide open as it has been in a long time. There are about 4 teams that many feel could come out on top of this conference. Whichever team wins the conference and ends up in the NCAA tournament is going to provide a challenge for the opposing team. The teams in this conference are always some of the best put together teams in the country who have been battle-tested all year.

One aspect of the conference, much like the other conferences previewed in these articles, is the amount of unknown talent. Virtually every team in the conference has at least one player who could be considered a star. One of the budding stars in the league plays for the UMass Minutemen. UMass is a program that has experienced success over the course of their history but has been in the rebuild mode recently.

The Minutemen have a new coach with Matt McCall, and coach McCall has built a team that many believe to compete for the top 4 of the league. One player on campus, who also may be one of the best players in the entire conference this year is Luwane Pipkins. He’s a junior guard who makes his way to UMass via Chicago, Illinois. If everything goes according to plan the Chicago native will add his name to the list of players from UMass who have played in the NBA, and the first since Gary Forbes.
