NCAA Basketball: Predicting NBA 2K19 ratings for incoming top-10 rookies

Although this is a college basketball website, only one international player was drafted in the lottery so I will break my predicted rating for him as well. (Yes, I actually follow the NBA closely – Bucks fan, sadly – and have watched plenty of Doncic film as well.) Luka Doncic is one of the best players to ever come over Europe for his age. He is ridiculously skilled and has shown the ability to be a top-notch talent against several former NBA players. Because of this, it is possible that Doncic ends up being the most highly-rated rookie in this class.

However, though, it is important to look at how NBA 2K has rated other international players in the past. Here is how the five most recent international top-8 selections were rated:

  • 2K18: Frank Ntilikina (8th pick – 74 overall)
  • 2K17: Dragan Bender (4th pick – 72 overall)
  • 2K16: Kristaps Porzingis (4th pick – 74 overall)
  • 2K16: Mario Hezonja (5th pick – 73 overall)
  • 2K15: Dante Exum (5th pick – 74 overall)

These ratings seem to suggest that 2K does not typically award higher overalls to international players as opposed to some of the former college stars. However, I think they make a *bit* of an exception when it comes to how highly-touted Doncic is.

Predicted rating: 76 overall.
