Point Guard

Minutes Allocated (40 total): Devin Watson (18), Jeremy Hemsley (17) and Adam Seiko (5)

After scoring over 20 ppg at San Francisco, Watson made the successful transition to a San Diego State program that played a much different style of offensive basketball. His offense helped the Aztecs improve greatly from the near 300s to inside the top-80. The 6’1 guard also was second on the team in assists per game with 3.8, including a season-high nine against Arizona State last season.

Watson was part of a solid two-guard lineup along with the outgoing Trey Kell last season. The vast majority of those minutes will be going to Hemsley, who after averaging 12.9 ppg two years ago took a major step back.

The 6’4 guard averaged just 7.3 ppg and saw his minutes decreased by eight with Watson coming into the equation. His overall efficiency took a big dip and Hemsley failed to reach double figures in the last 11 games of the season. With his minutes likely to rise back up he’ll have to get back to how he played the first couple of seasons for the Aztecs to do well.

One player who may crack the rotation is Seiko, a former three-star recruit who redshirted last season. Although San Diego State was much better as a team on offense, they still could use some improvement. If he can shoot the ball well, look for the 6’3 guard to get some minutes.
