28. VCU Rams

Location: Siegel Center (7,637) in Richmond, VA

The Siegel Center, which contains the E.J. Wade Arena inside, is a multi-purpose building on the VCU campus that houses the majority of the athletic events for the school. Although the arena seats less than 10,000 fans, the claustrophobic nature of the fans cramped in close quarters creates for a unique fan experience. Easily one of the most dangerous places to play in the Atlantic 10, VCU has taken several victims over the years.

In fact, the Rams hold a 143-23 (.861) record at home over the last 10 years, a mark that ranks 14th in the nation. While this record may be boosted from playing in a mid-to-high major conference, the Rams have taken care of business in four of their seven home attempts against top-25 teams during this stretch. In short, no high-major team wants to go on the road and face this crowd.

The student section at VCU, known as the “Rowdy Rams”, was named the Naismith Student Section of the Year award for the 2012-13 season. Although the stadium might not be as loud as it was during the “Havoc” years of Shaka Smart, VCU fans are more than passionate when it comes to their college basketball.
