NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Who will land top 2019 prospect James Wiseman?
Arizona Wildcats
Arizona just had the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft in big man DeAndre Ayton, who averaged 20.1 ppg and 11.6 rpg in his one and only year with the program. The high-flying offense the Wildcats run has to be appealing to Wiseman who may be able to put up similar numbers if it flows through him.
As of now, the only true big that’s on the roster for the Wildcats for 2019-20 is Chase Jeter, who’s coming off a redshirt season after transferring in from Duke. It’s unknown how good he really is at the D-1 level but if he performs well Wiseman can play off of him at the power forward spot.
Assuming the FBI Investigation is past the program, Sean Miller and the coaching staff plan on reloading the roster with top-tier prospects. With local five-star guard Nico Mannion looking at Arizona as well, he and Wiseman could form an elite offensive combo.
Florida State Seminoles
In terms of depth, Florida State will have one of the better frontcourts for the upcoming season. Rising seniors Phil Cofer and Christ Koumadje will lead the team and cause problems for the opponents. But with 7’0 center Ike Obiagu leaving the team for Seton Hall, the Seminoles have to be concerned about the future.
Wiseman’s athleticism would fit nicely into what Coach Hamilton likes to do for his bigs. Plus, the offense he would bring would be an added benefit for a team who has been used to one-dimensional centers. A number of five-star players have come to Florida State in recent years such as MJ Walker, Dwayne Bacon and Johnathan Isaac so don’t be surprised if they remain a contender down the road for him.
