Why You Should Know Taylor

The rising sophomore forward arrived on campus at Austin Peay, like any first-year player does. He was an unknown player, that all fans and media members were excited to see. What happened during the season would put Taylor on the map and keep the Austin Peay players and fans clamoring for more. Taylor was named the Ohio Valley freshman of the year. The freshman of the year honors went along with first team all Ohio Valley, as well as 5-time Ohio Valley freshman of the week.

As was mentioned above, special players can break records with relative ease, the forward did just that. To go along with all of the respect he received in the conference, he was able to secure 133 offensive rebounds, which was the sixth most by a Division 1 freshman since 2009-2010 season. The sophomore broke the Austin Peay record when he hauled in 291 total rebounds. Taylor almost broke the freshman scoring record, scoring 530 total points which was good for second among all Austin Peay freshman in a single season. How many more records will the forward break this year?

Another way to tell if a player is well on his way to a superstar is how they play against the high-level competition. Taylor brings his best against the nations best. He tallied a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds against Oklahoma St. Austin Peay has not had a freshman tally a double-double against a high major team in 2 years before that game. He was the first Govs freshman to post a 30-point game since 1999.

Taylor also saw another record fall, due to his skill and that was the 10 double double’s he recorded last year. No first-year player in the history of the Ohio Valley conference had ever accomplished that. The sophomore forward had a decorated season and looks to build on that for the upcoming season.
