Big East Basketball: Top 10 incoming impact freshmen for 2018-19
7. Brandon Slater, Villanova
Forward | 6-foot-6 | 180 lbs | No. 52 overall
The first Villanova recruit on this list (trust me, there are more), Brandon Slater projects as a solid forward who could see minutes right away. With both Omari Spellman and Mikal Bridges no longer on the roster, there is playing time available at the forward positions. This is where Brandon Slater might be able to carve out a role right away. With a well-built 6-foot-6 frame, Slater can play either forward position and succeed thanks also in part to his elite athleticism.
However, this role is far from a guarantee. Villanova is actually quite deep in returning talent at forward with Jermaine Samuels, Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree, Eric Paschall, Tim Delaney, and another 2018 commit in Saddiq Bey. Because of this, Slater will definitely need to work hard to carve out a consistent role. Of course, it helps that he is a very versatile player.
While on the court, Slater does an great job showing hustle and running the court. He has excellent speed in the open floor and is able to use this either to score quick buckets or get back on defense when necessary. In addition, he has a solid shooting stroke and can consistently knock down the 3-point shot.
