Why You Should Know Williams

Williams is one of the most prolific scorers in the country who no one knows about. He is so unknown because he plays for a smaller school, in a small conference. While many of the other players highlighted in this series have played for small schools in a small conference, none of them played for a team who only won six games. The Bison only winning six games has led many to pay them no attention, even though they have one of the best offensive players in the country.

Williams is a player who can score from anywhere, averaging 20.4 points per game last season. That number looks good enough on its own, but when you look at the shooting percentages associated with that average it will look even more efficient. The junior shot over 40% from three-point range and was able to convert on 45% of his two-point attempts. Those numbers are efficient even for a guy who took over 550 shots.

The Bison run the offense through Williams and superstar sophomore RJ Cole. Williams is the catch and shoot player of the bunch. The junior guard has averaged under one assist per game over his career. Not that the guard does not try to get his teammates involved. His leadership in the huddles and on the bench keeps the team together. The Bison are at their best when Williams is hunting his shot, getting open and knocking down shots. Coach Nickelberry hopes that with a year of improvement for Williams, while paired with Cole the Bison are able to improve upon their six wins from a year ago.
