Mountain West Basketball: Preseason rankings for 2018-19
By Connor Hope
The rest of the Mountain West looks to be on the rise, but it is hard to imagine any team really challenging the Nevada Wolf Pack for the regular season title. While Nevada may have run away with the title last year, they have only increased the gap between them and the rest of the conference.
Earlier this summer it looked like the Wolf Pack’s top three players – Caleb Martin, Cody Martin, and Jordan Caroline – were heading to the NBA, but all three are back and will be joined by the best group of transfers in the country. Add Jordan Brown to that squad, and Eric Musselman has a Final Four contender.
One issue the Wolf Pack will have is spreading getting everyone the minutes they want. In addition to the four mentioned, there will be six capable upperclassmen and a handful of solid freshman who will all be competing for spots in the rotation.
Expectations have never been this high in Reno, and it will be exciting to see how the Wolf Pack live up to them. Will the experienced squad come together and make a deep tournament run, or will their lack of time together lead to chemistry issues?
