Duke Basketball: Alternatives for Blue Devils after losing out on Armando Bacot
By Bryan Mauro
Current Targets for Duke in 2019 class
Isaiah Stewart currently plays his high school basketball at La Lumiere which is one of the very best prep schools in the entire country. The school recently produced NBA players Jaren Jackson Jr., as well as the centerpiece of the college basketball FBI scandal in Brian Bowen. Stewart the current big man does not have any scandal attached to his name and is a top 10 recruit in the 2019 class. The recruit is a little undersized to play the center position, standing at only 6’8”. However, he makes up for that lack of size with his athletic ability.
As the previously written article outlines, Stewart is a great rebounder capable of changing a game with this rebounding ability. While the rest of his game is still evolving, the big man can seemingly evolve into any situation and will fit in perfectly within the Duke offense. If anyone can help him evolve that is Coach K.
Vernon Carey is the number 2 recruit in the entire country, and Duke has had a long history of landing the top players in the country. After all, on their current roster the Blue Devils currently have the number 1, 2 recruits in the 2018 class. Carey is the player who is already physically ready to dominate teams inside the paint, much like Bacot was. The one aspect of his game that sets him apart from both Bacot and Stewart is his ability to hit shots on the perimeter. Not only can he hit shots on the perimeter, he is also a good defender outside of the paint.
Carey is a physically gifted player who is ready to not only dominate in college but will more than likely be a one and done player. At 6’9” and 245 pounds he is going to be a matchup nightmare for virtually anyone he goes up against. Carey would be the perfect recruit to minimize the effect Bacot is going to have on the floor at North Carolina.
