Ohio State Basketball: Breaking down the 2018 recruiting class
Duane Washington – Chatsworth, CA
Guard | 6-foot-3 | 190 lbs | No. 168 overall
Even though Ohio State already has two rotation-worthy point guards on the roster in C.J. Jackson and Keyshawn Woods, this incoming freshman also seems likely to squeeze out a role in his first season on campus. An elite shooter, Duane Washington will add some much-needed floor spacing to the Buckeyes rotation. He easily stretches the floor beyond the 3-point arc and is also a more than capable playmaker at the guard position.
At 6-foot-3, he possesses plenty of size to play the position and can also function as a combo guard if need be as well. Because of this versatility, Washington can easily slide between positions to make for a more fluid team rotation. Also, regardless of the position he is playing, Washington can be effective when on the floor because of his sound defensive play and 3-point shooting.
While playing for Sierra Canyon School in California, a team loaded with college talent, Washington averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game this past season. Even though he might not jump out as an elite scorer, Washington is an all-around guard who has no trouble knocking down the open 3-pointer. As he continues to develop over the next few years, Washington could become a big star.
