1. Carsen Edwards, Purdue

6-foot-1 Purdue Boilermakers guard Carsen Edwards should be an early favorite for Big Ten Player of the Year after the sophomore season he turned in. He averaged 18.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals in his 37 appearances, all starts, in 2017-18.

Edwards broke out, particularly from behind the 3-point arc, as Purdue turned in their first 30-win season in program history. He shot a career-high 40.6 percent from 3-point land last season. His 97 made 3-pointers ranked second in the Big Ten.

He put up 40 points once and 30 points once during his sophomore campaign. He finished with 30 points in the team’s loss in the NCAA Tournament to Texas Tech. He still shot 11-for-20 (55 percent) and went 4-of-9 (44.4 percent) from behind the arc.

The Boilermakers will lose a lot of their starters from a season ago, which opens the door for more production from Edwards. With more work in the offseason, he’s sure to have more of those 30 and 40-point efforts in his arsenal for his junior season.
