15. Jeff Capel, Pittsburgh

Jeff Capel is the newest head coach in the coaching game for the Pittsburgh Panthers. Capel returns to the head coaching ranks after spending the past seven seasons with the Duke Blue Devils.

It helps Capel has the pedigree to coach in the ACC, given his background. The Panthers will be his third head coaching gig in college basketball after previous stops at VCU (2002-06) and Oklahoma (2006-11). He coached those teams to a combined record of 175-110 (.614).

He’ll have a tall order ahead of him fixing the Pittsburgh Panthers. The Panthers went winless (0-19) in ACC play in 2017-18 and finished with an overall record of 8-24. They are a team that has been in dire straits since the departure of head coach Jamie Dixon to TCU.

Entering 2018-19, the Pittsburgh roster will see a bit of turnover. Parker Stewart left the program after Kevin Stallings’ firing. Stewart averaged 9.1 points and 3.3 rebounds as a freshman for the Panthers last season. The key additions of freshman Xavier Johnson, Trey McGowens and Au’Diese Toney will be huge for Capel entering this upcoming season, giving Capel a good headstart.
