NCAA Basketball: Which teams are off to hot starts in 2019 recruiting?
7. Texas A&M Aggies
Commits – 2: Wheeler (102), Harris Jr. (131)
Current Rank: No. 13 overall class
Texas A&M has been a solid recruiting program for the last several years. Even though he did not bring any players in from the 2018 class, head coach Billy Kennedy has locked up several elite-level recruiting classes in the past. Now, with two top-150 commits in the 2019 class, the Aggies look to be en route to potentially signing another top-tier class. Coach Kennedy has reached the NCAA Tournament just twice in his seven-year career with Texas A&M so far but this recruiting class could be the one that sparks consistency for the program.
Both of the recruits already committed project as four-year college players that should help sustain success for the program. Over the years, the Aggies have struggled a bit due to players leaving early or failing to develop over their collegiate careers. In the case of TAMU’s 2019 commits, both players have clearly improved over the past couple of years and it is legitimate to expect that they can continue doing so.
Most notably, Chris Harris Jr. possesses plenty of size to play at the shooting guard position (6-foot-3) and he has a well-rounded offensive skill set. He boasts plenty of athleticism and is developing as shooter. In regards to Sahvir Wheeler, there are not many guards more polished at this point. At 5-foot-8, he has consistently overcome steep odds to this point in his career and his finishing/playmaking skills are already very solid.
