5. Virginia Cavaliers

Commits – 2: Shedrick (53), Morsell (64)

Current Rank: No. 8 overall class

Virginia’s Tony Bennett is one of the best in-game head coaches in the country. Year after year, the Cavaliers are one of the top teams in the country thanks to his tremendous defensive scheme and the ability to get the most out of his players. For most of this past season, many saw UVA as the top team in the country heading into the NCAA Tournament. Yet, as we all know, the Cavaliers became the first No. 1 seed to ever lose in the first round.

Yet, Virginia’s future is still bright. Coach Bennett not only returns a fair amount of talent to be a top-10 team in the country during this upcoming campaign but his 2019 recruiting class is off to a fast start. Even though the Cavaliers have not traditionally been a great recruiting program, that narrative might be changing this year.

UVA has already secured commitments from two top-100 recruits and the class is currently ranked in the top-10 of the nation. Kadin Shedrick, a 6-foot-11 big man from North Carolina, is the top-rated recruit in the class and is hinging on joining the top-50. In addition, smooth shooting guard Casey Morsell brings decent size to the backcourt at 6-foot-2 and he can also shoot the lights out from distance.

2018 AAU Circuit Stats
