7. Matthew Mayer, Baylor

The Baylor Bears turned in the 35th ranked recruiting class this past recruiting cycle, led by small forward signee Matthew Mayer. Big man Flo Thamba will also be one player to keep an eye on, but Mayer is the biggest get in this year’s class.

Mayer is a 6-foot-7 forward from Austin, Texas with the ability to shoot the 3-pointer as well as sneaky athleticism. While most teams will expect him to be a sharpshooter from behind the arc, he also has the ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim, regardless of who is front of him.

Head coach Scott Drew found himself in rebuilding mode this past season after leading the Bears to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Now, they’ll need to replace four seniors including leading scorer Manu Lecomte. The team finished 10th in 3-point shooting percentage (32.6 percent) last season despite Lecomte shooting 38.1 percent from 3-point range.

Mayer looks to boost the Bears’ 3-point shooting and then some in 2018-19. He’ll be one player with a high ceiling entering his freshman season.
