St. Francis (PA) Basketball: In-depth look at senior guard Jamaal King
By Bryan Mauro
Expectations for King in 2018-19
The Red Flash had a great season by their standards last year. The 18 wins were the fourth most in school history and the most since the 1990-1991 team that made the NCAA tournament. The 1990-1991 season is the only season in the Red Flash history in which they have made the NCAA tournament. Coach Krimmel looks to build off this year with the best team that he has had since he has been at the helm.
Coach Krimmel is going to rely on his senior leadership headed by King to help get his team over the top. To make the tournament the Red Flash will need to win their conference tournament to earn the conference’s automatic bid. However, a great regular season and regular season conference title will not go unnoticed. The Northeast conference is one of the conferences that does earn the automatic bid to the NIT if the conference regular season winner is different from the tournament champion.
Even if the senior guard does not make the NCAA tournament. Any postseason tournament outside of the Northeast conference will be much-needed exposure for the nation to see what King has to offer to the game of basketball. Within the conference, the guard is an early season favorite for the conference player of the year, with his biggest competition coming from his own team in Braxton. If King continues his play from last year, the NBA is not at all out of question. King most likely won’t get drafted, but he could find himself on a summer league team, show out and wind up on a roster.
The senior guard is going to do everything in his power to ensure the Red Flash make the tournament and this roster will go down in the history books. The next step for King after this season will be to see his number hanging in the rafters at his alma mater.
