NCAA Basketball: 25 most successful programs of the 21st century
5. Florida Gators
As the head coach for the majority of the century, Billy Donovan put together some ridiculously successful campaigns. Under his leadership, Florida only missed three NCAA Tournaments from 2000-01 through 2014-15. And, during this stretch, the Gators were able to make several deep runs in the Big Dance.
Most notably, many will remember when the Gators accomplished the rare feat of winning back-to-back national titles in 2006 and 2007. Even though Florida ended up missing the Big Dance entirely during the two following seasons, Coach Donovan and Co. returned with a vengeance while reaching the Elite Eight in three straight seasons (2011, ’12, ’13) before returning to the Final Four in 2014.
With all of these accomplishments taken into account, Florida more than belongs in the top-5 of this rankings. Over the years, the follow Gators were named AP All-Americans: Scottie Wilbekin, Joakim Noah, Al Horford, and Udonis Haslem.
