Kansas Basketball: 5 reasons why the Jayhawks will be title contenders

3. How about those freshmen?

In addition to the Lawson Brothers seeing their first minutes in Jayhawk uniforms this season, head coach Bill Self is also bringing in one of the best recruiting classes in the nation. Per 247Sports, this five-man class ranked No. 5 in the country for the 2018 class. Featuring three top-50 players along with two other solid additions, the Jayhawks will certainly have plenty of young talent this season.

When breaking down how these freshmen will impact the program, guards Devon Dotson and Quentin Grimes look poised for big roles in their first seasons on campus. Now that Devonte’ Graham is no longer with the program due to graduation, the Jayhawks needed to bulk up their backcourt rotation this offseason. And with these two recruits, Coach Self and Co. more than made that happen with these top-25 recruits. Both should play significant minutes and will be among the best freshmen in the country.

In addition, David McCormack is another top-50 recruit but one that should beef up the frontcourt for the Jayhawks. With Udoka Azubuike already holding down the starting center spot, McCormack should help improve the depth of the roster by providing reserve minutes at both the power forward and center spots. And this does not include where top-150 wing Ochai Agbaji.
