5. Deepest team in the country?

Injuries often play a major factor in determining NCAA title favorites. For the most part, the best teams in the country cannot afford to lose a player or two due to how important each player is to success. For a case in point, just look at Virginia this past season. For almost the entire year, the Cavaliers were one of the top teams in the country and they were awarded the No. 1 overall seed for their regular-season success. Yet, once De’Andre Hunter was hurt, the program suffered and fell in the first round of the Big Dance.

In regards to Kansas this season, though, there might not be a deeper team on paper in the country. In addition to boasting an extremely talented starting lineup, the Jayhawks have a tremendous bench that can go multiple players deep. While of course no one wants anyone to get hurt, injuries are a part of the game and can affect teams in different ways. For Kansas, the “next man up” idea of approaching injuries might be able to be applied thanks to the depth of the roster.

So, if the Jayhawks are forced into replacing a player or two, they are far more equipped than most other top teams in the country.

With these five reasons considered, it is easy to see why Kansas will be a national title contender during this upcoming season. In addition to just head coach Bill Self running the show, the program has two legit National Player of the Year contenders, a tremendous recruiting class, and unique depth.
