NCAA Basketball Recruiting: 5 under the radar recruits who could be “one and done” in 2018-19
2. Carte’Are Gordon, St. Louis
Head coach Travis Ford is entering his third season with the St. Louis Billikens as 2018-19 approaches. Ford looks to turn a corner in Year 3 and he’ll have Carte’Are Gordon at his disposal to do so. The St. Louis native that shunned some of the bigger programs to remain in-state and play for the Billikens. He committed to St. Louis over Kansas and Missouri.
All eyes will be on Gordon to be a top performer in year 1 and a breakout season could see him off to the NBA. The Billikens went 17-16 last season, 9-9 in the Atlantic 10, increasing their win total by five under Ford. With a ton of experience returning, St. Louis should have all the confidence in the world heading into 2018-19.
Add in the potential contributions of Gordon and the Billikens could very easily be a Cinderella squad come March. Gordon led his Webster Groves High School squad to two straight state championships his junior and senior seasons of high school. He brings a winner’s mentality to a team in need of some bulk in its frontcourt. A successful freshman campaign could see Gordon become the latest mid-major player to hit the NBA from the college basketball ranks.
