5. Archie Miller

The Hoosiers struggled last year adjusting to the new style of play. New head coach Archie Miller despite the injuries, lack of quality depth and a roster he didn’t recruit, was still able to finish one game over .500 for the season. That is impressive considering the Hoosiers did not play with a team with much of an identity for most of the year. They really struggled on defense and they relied way to much on the three-point shot early in the year.

Prior to Indiana, Coach Miller was the head coach for the University of Dayton in the Atlantic 10 conference. No fear Hoosier fans, Miller was able to rebuild that program in two short seasons. He ended his reign with the Flyers with two straight regular season conference championships and 4 straight NCAA tournament appearances. Miller is responsible for taking Dayton to the Elite 8 in the 2013 season. It was the first of his 4 NCAA tournament appearances.

Miller was able to secure a top-5 recruit in Indiana native Romeo Langford. Langford was selling out high school gyms in Indiana and brought with him the same type of hype that followed around Zion Williamson. The commitment of the best player in the state of Indiana, a kid who grew up an Indiana fan. That commitment coupled with the play of superstar Juwan Morgan is going to be the groundwork for a potential return to the NCAA tournament for the storied program.

Every fan of College Basketball knows about Indiana basketball. They know they were coached by one of the top 3 greatest coaches of all time in Bob Knight. They were the last College Basketball team to finish an entire season undefeated. Miller will never reach the Bob Knight status but if his past numbers tell us anything, they say he is a great coach who wins. It took him two years to win at Dayton, with the current roster and the uptick that is expected for recruiting at Indiana, he may not need the two-year window. Once he starts the winning at Indiana, it may have an avalanche affect and conference titles and potential National Titles may come. Indiana hit a home run with this hire, and it will pay off tenfold.
