Big Ten Basketball: Ranking the head coaches for 2018-19
By Bryan Mauro
10. Tim Miles
Nebraska is the only team in the Power 5 conferences to never win a game in the NCAA tournament. The Huskers have only made the tournament a grand total of seven times in school history. Five of the NCAA tournament appearances came when Danny Nee was running the program and he guided the team to four tournament appearances in a row.
Coach Miles led Nebraska to the NCAA tournament in his second year with the program. It was a surprising year and a fantastic coaching job done by the staff. Last years season was one of the best in the history of the Nebraska basketball program. The 22-11 record is the second most wins the program has ever had. The 13 conference victories were the most in school history. Nebraska did not make the tournament last year, due to what some say was a padded schedule. They acted and played like a tournament team.
The Huskers have all their key pieces back from a year ago. Miles has been able to infuse this program with talent the previous coaches at Nebraska would never have any chance at getting. The Huskers have expectations this year for the first time since the 2014 season. This year they are armed with one of the deepest starting fives in the conference, which is led by potential player of the year James Palmer. The Huskers are no longer an easy game for any team in the conference.
The Huskers coaches have begun to secure the commitments of the instate talent again. As well as using the help of NBA superstars Dwayne Wade to help elicit publicity for their program. One thing Coach Miles has never been short on, are words. He has a great sense of humor and appears to be a great motivator. His kids play hard. He is not higher on the list due to the seasons in which his team was just the same old Nebraska team. In his six completed seasons in Lincoln, only two have come with a winning record. This current team can change that and make history. If Coach Miles can actually win an NCAA tournament game, watch out. The rabid Husker fans will make him the coach for life and erect statues in his honor.
