Non-conference schedule

Nov. 13: at Illinois
Nov. 16-18: Jamaica Classic
Dec. 8: at Syracuse
Dec. 15: SMU
Dec. 22: Little Rock
TBD: Richmond

Georgetown’s lackluster non-conference schedule become a punchline of sorts last season, and while it’s expected to be filled out with cupcakes again, the slate that’s set right now is definitely a step up that will test the Hoyas.

The annual rivalry game against Syracuse was their only notable non-conference game a year ago, but this year, it will be their second tough road test after they make the trip to take on Illinois during the second week of the season. The Fighting Illini are also in the second year of a rebuild under head coach Brad Underwood, and they are also expecting to take a step forward. This game will serve as a great measuring stick for both teams.

Ewing will get to go back home to Jamaica in the Jamaican Classic, but the early-season tournament should not provide the Hoyas with a test. Austin Peay, Campbell, Central Connecticut, FAMU, Loyola Marymount, Ohio and South Florida are the other teams in the field.

SMU should be their toughest remaining test of the teams we know are on their schedule. The Mustangs have become a program that expects to make or compete for a bid in the NCAA Tournament every season. Little Rock and Richmond should both be relatively easy wins.
