Overview for Dayton this upcoming season

The Dayton Flyers weren’t a bad team considering their lack of experience. They should be a much more competitive team in 2018-19 although the NCAA Tournament may be another season away for them. They did earn the pledges of transfers Ibi Watson (Michigan) and Rodney Chatman (UT-Chattanooga) but they will have to sit out this season before having two years of eligibility left to play.

The Atlantic 10 will be more wide open than ever with tons of departures for the Rhode Island Rams including their head coach Dan Hurley who is now the head coach over at UConn. That leaves the Flyers with the potential of finishing right in the middle of the fray after the team finished 8-10 with a young roster in 2017-18.

The emergence of freshman Dwayne Cohill will be something to watch given the team’s depth in the backcourt. It will be interesting to see if Coach Grant can get Cohill and Jalen Crutcher to co-exist in the backcourt or if Cohill can surpass Crutcher in the starting rotation after he turned in a strong performance in 2017-18.

Josh Cunningham and Trey Landers will be the fearless leaders for this team, giving them a bit of star power to rely on if things ever go awry. Either way, Coach Grant is off to a good start heading into season two of his return to the college sidelines. Don’t be surprised to see this squad finish in the Top 5 of the conference standings before it’s all over with.
